Wilbur C. Marsh, age 90, of Vermontville, MI, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Wilbur was born Aug. 16, 1919 in Albion, MI the son of Wilbur and Fern (Dunn) Marsh, Sr. and had been a Vermontville resident for 51 years coming from Hastings. He was a Graduate of Litchfield, MI High School, had attended Wayne State Mortuary College in Detroit and had served in the U. S. Navy as a Corpsman during World War Two and the Korean Conflict. He was a licensed Mortician having started at age 14 with his father and grandfather in Litchfield, MI, later attending Mortuary School. He later was employed as a cashier for Stanton Auctioneering in Vermontville and served as a rural mail carrier out of the Vermontville Post Office. He was a 60 year member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Hastings, MI, was a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion. Surviving are: his wife, Kay (Walker) Marsh; daughter, Rebecca (Dennis) Marsh Day of Pleasant Hill, CA; son, Tom Marsh of Vermontville; son-in-law, Alan Hamlin of Rapid City, MI; grandson, Mark (Cindy) Hamlin of Hastings; 2 great grandsons, Devin and Aaron Hamlin; sister, Marjorie Whitehead of Mason and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Hamlin; 2 sisters, Dorothy (Harvey) Griffiths and Verl (Bob) Young and a brother, Fay (Madge) Marsh. At Wilbur’s request, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hastings, MI with Rev. Michael Kemper officiating. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 A. M. until time of services on Saturday at the Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pennock Hospice, Hastings or the Eaton Community Hospice of Charlotte.
