Nina Maxine Rohlfs of Charlotte, age 101, passed away Wednesday, November 02, 2016 at Hope Landing Assisted Living where she had been a resident for 6 ½ years. Maxine was born May 16, 1915 in Akron, MI the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Tobias) Hover. She was a 1933 Graduate of Akron High School and had attended Tuscola County Normal in 1934. She had been employed by the Eaton County Juvenile Court as a Children’s Services Director from where she retired in 1979 after 25 years of service. Previously had taught in Tuscola & Huron County rural schools. She was an active member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church where she had served as Secretary and President of the United Methodist Women, was a member of the Naomi Circle and was a Lay Delegate to the annual Conference for 9 years. She was a member of the Southside Mothers Club in the 30’s & 40’s, was a Cub Scout Den Mother in the 1950’s, was an American Cancer Society Volunteer in the 70’s & 80’s, and had served as a Welcome Wagon Hostess. She was a member of the Charlotte Mini Theatre Group, the Charlotte Business Women’s Guild, the Hayes-Green-Beach Hospital Auxiliary and the Eaton County Retiree’s Organization which she helped organize in 1982. She was a member of the Eaton County Extension Group, the State Employee Retiree’s Association and served on the Tri-County Consortium on Aging in 1988-90. She was an active member of the Eaton Area Senior Center, the Red Hat Society and enjoyed working and participating at the Eaton County 4-H Fair. Surviving are: her 4 sons, Wilford (Marie) Rohlfs, Jr. of Ormond Beach, FL, Richard Rohlfs of Kalamazoo, Robert (Sandy) Rohlfs of Gun Lake, MI and Ronald (Chris) Rohlfs of Holt; 6 grandchildren, Theresa Putnal, Tammy (Paul) Bement, Robyn Murphy, Erin (Chad) Price, Michelle (Ralph) Montemayor and Laurie (Russell) Schaibly; 9 great grandchildren, Ben & Sam Bement, Logan & Ryan Murphy, Harrison & Griffin Price, Brayden & Brooklyn Schaibly and Genevieve Montemayor; 1 sister, Madeline (Harold) Schafer and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Wilford H. Rohlfs in 2001 and a sister, Mildred Austin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Gary Wales of the Lawrence Ave. United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 5-8 PM at the Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016 at the Brookside Cemetery, Fairgrove, MI.
