Dawn Y. Ball

Dawn Y. Ball, born April 14, 1929, in Charlotte, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026. Her long and remarkable life leaves behind a legacy deeply rooted in the places she cherished and the passions that defined her journey.

Dawn’s story began in the heart of Michigan, but it was the great expanses of Alaska where she built much of her life. The spirit of independence and adventure that characterized her time in Alaska remained with her when she eventually made her home on a serene farm in Oregon. There, surrounded by nature and the gentle rhythm of rural life, Dawn found great fulfillment.

A true lover of animals, Dawn formed a special bond with the horses and cattle in her care. Her dogs were her loyal companions, sharing in the peace she created on her farm. Animals were not the only recipients of her attention and creativity; Dawn was an accomplished artisan whose talents extended to crafting and the meticulous art of creating stained glass. With patient hands, she transformed simple objects into beautiful pieces, and she delighted in bringing new life to furniture through careful refinishing. Each project reflected her care and attention to detail, leaving a tangible reminder of her artistry for others to admire.

Those who knew Dawn describe her as someone who cherished solitude and the quiet company of her farm animals. Whether walking among the pastures or dedicating time to one of her many creative pursuits, she found serenity in simple moments and the natural world around her.

Dawn’s journey through life was marked by independence, creativity, and an abiding love of animals and the land. Her memory endures not only in the hearts of those who knew her but in the tranquil spaces and handcrafted treasures she leaves behind.

Dawn is survived by her sister, Velda Lofgren; grandson, Dan (Charie) Bryan; great-grandsons, Dan (Bethany Packowski) Bryan, Ashtin (Shauwna) Bryan, Blaze Bryan, Brandon Bryan, Brent Bryan; and three great-greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mattie Carmoney; daughter, Vikki Harper; and husband, Don Ball. 

In keeping with Dawn's wishes no service will be held. A private burial will take place at Needmore Cemetery.
