David Evan Persell

David Evan Persell, age 78, of Charlotte, passed away on September 28, 2026, in Lansing, Michigan, one day after his 78th birthday. He was born on September 27, 1948, in Miami, Florida, the son of Charles and Sylvia (Sarkin) Persell. He graduated from Miami Norland High School in 1966 and went on to earn his PhD from Michigan State University. His education and drive helped shape a life marked by hard work, curiosity, and accomplishment. On June 14, 1970, Dave married Kaye Ragan. Together they created many memories that will be cherished forever.

Dave was extremely bright, humorous, and energetic, and he brought that spirit to every part of his life. He was a businessman and entrepreneur who built two companies from the ground up and later sold them. His first company was Diamond Brite Inc., an auto paint sealant business. His second was MotorKote Inc., an antifriction oil lubricant company. Along with his work in business, he also taught business classes at several local colleges, sharing his knowledge and experience with others.

Dave had a deep love for classic cars and all automobiles. He also enjoyed collecting antique clocks, spending time outdoors, and working in his yard. He had many friends and was someone whose energy and sense of humor made him easy to enjoy and remember. Over the years, he also dearly loved his many Labrador Retrievers, which were an important and happy part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dave is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kaye; and brother, Eliot (Karen) Persell.

In keeping with Dave's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial will be held at a later date.
