Beryl Watters, age 88, of Lansing, went to be with the Lord on March 30, 2026, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born at home in the beautiful seaside town of Bangor, Northern Ireland, Beryl carried the warmth, resilience and wonderful accent of her homeland throughout her life. At just 18 years old, she joined her sisters and their families in Canada beginning a new chapter filled with hope and determination. She soon moved to the U.S with her new husband, eventually settling in Michigan and raising a family. Poetically, one of her proudest moments came on St. Patrick's Day in 1982, when she officially became a United States citizen-a day that beautifully honored both her heritage and her future.
Beryl loved the Lord with a sincere and steady faith that shaped the way she loved and cared for others. She cherished her family and friends deeply, and she had a gift for making people feel welcomed and valued. Her love for people was unmistakable- whether she was greeting students at her job at MSU, newcomers at South Church, where she served faithfully for years, or offering a warm smile to customers during her time as a greeter at Meijer. Beryl had a heart for her community, serving as a board member of the association she called home for over 30 years.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures: Her grandkids, singing, knitting, watching sports, and playing card games, and simply spending time with the people she loved. Her laughter, her accent, her kindness, and her gentle presence created memories that will be treasured forever.
Beryl is survived by her children: Craig Watters, Trevor Watters and his wife Amy, and Rhonda Franck and her husband Gary. She was a proud grandmother to Ryan, Amanda, Brianna, Connor, and Caleb, each of whom brought her immense joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Mary Holderness, her brother James, and her sisters Greta and Elvenie. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.
A celebration of Beryl's life will be held at South Church, 5250 Cornerstone Dr, Lansing, MI on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 2:00 PM with lunch following. The family will receive friends starting at 12:30 PM prior to the service at church.
