Alfred Andrew Doll, affectionately known as Al, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Charlotte, Michigan, on April 20, 2026. He was born on August 2, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Vernol and Audrey (Desjarlais) Doll.

Al graduated from Farmington Hills High School in 1967, embarking on a journey of lifelong learning that led him to earn his bachelor's degree. His dedication to service was evident early on, as he proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. This period of his life reflected his strong sense of duty and resilience.

Known to many as a jack of all trades, Al's hands shaped wood as a skilled carpenter, cared for horses as a farrier, and managed critter control with expertise and patience. His versatility and work ethic were admired by those who knew him well. Beyond his professional endeavors, Al's passions enriched his life. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed goose and duck hunting, pursuits that connected him deeply with the outdoors. His love for animals was clear in his dedication to raising champion Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and his enthusiasm as an avid horseman.

Al was remembered for his caring and giving nature, qualities that touched the lives of many. Those who spent time with him will recall his bold, hardy laugh—a sound that brought warmth and joy in any setting.

Al is survived by his wife, Joy; daughter, Katie (Brandon) Varner; son, Adam (Sarah) Doll; several step-children; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother; and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
